All individual treatment depends on my client's needs. I use a variety of approaches that help you move through your concerns to a sense of completion. Over the past 20 years, I have trained in Adlerian, Cognitive Behavioral & Gestalt Theories, and Somatic experiencing. All of these are combined with my integration of Pia Mellody's model which evaluates you from your historical perspective. I work with your Family of Origin (FOO) by helping you understand your Wounded Child, Adaptive Child and growing your Functional Adult. This is combined with learning the 5 Core Self Skills, which are:
Appropriate self-esteem
Boundaries
Reality
Inner-dependence and
Moderation
Strengthening and growing a functional self is essential for successful relationships and a satisfying life.
I also stress the importance your spiritual heritage. In treatment you need to explore the meaning of all that you have gone through to truly make sense of your life. There are many ways this unfolds in session. It is helpful for you to evaluate your faith tradition and understand its impact on your life today. Exploration of the Christian tradition and the Bible are important topics to discuss where appropriate, as is evaluating other teaching and writings from religious traditions. I also use breathing, centering, mindfulness and meditation as a practice of healing and wholeness.
I offer 1 (one) hour sessions for individual therapy on a regular basis. At times, due to distance, you may also prefer to have a two or three hour-long sessions for intensive work on a monthly basis.
In between sessions I recommend homework. Homework consists of journaling, reading books or listening to recommended CD's, attending appropriate workshops or groups, AA, and other 12 step groups which offer support and incorporate a new behavioral practice in their lives.
