My work with couples follows the model of Terrence Real, LICSW. Terry is the best selling author three outstanding books. His breakthrough book on men's issues and depression, "I Don't Want Io Talk About It" is a classic in treating men's issues.
In addition, his two books on marriage, "How Do I Get Through To You"
and "The New Rules For Marriage"
are excellent resources for you and your partner in enhancing your relationship. Terry is a frequent contributor on Good Morning America as a relationship expert and founded the "Relational Life Therapy" model of couples counseling that I employ in my practice.
Using the methodology of RLT (Relational Life Therapy), you and your partner. within a few months, start seeing positive changes in behaviors and start experiencing more connection in your relationship. This therapy is unique and extraordinarily effective.
In my couples work I also have studied the work of John Gottman who has spent the past 40 years researching couples. His books and institute are also resources I often draw from, as is the work of Sue Johnson and her Emotionally Focused Therapy model, a modality which is also research based and looks at the early relational attachment patterns and their influence on adult interaction.
What is Relational Life Therapy?
It is a method of understanding the vicious cycle that keeps couples stuck in relationship, which results in building walls, distance, loneliness and frustration. In my work with couples, they get a clearer understanding of the old learned behaviors and how they keep them stuck. Then, I teach skills to find new behaviors that create more satisfaction and intimacy in their relationship. Ultimately through this practice, couples make choices to move from habitual behaviors to new learned behaviors, the relationship become more about mutual sharing and intimacy rather than a vicious alienating cycle.
I offer intensive sessions for you and your partner whether you are looking to improve or save your relationship. Most sessions require a two hour period every two or three weeks apart. I also offer full day intensive sessions. A typical intensive day long session would be 10:00 am until 5:00 pm with an hour long lunch break. My private practice hours are Monday through Friday, hours of 8:00 am until 6:00 pm.
There is homework given between sessions that range from reading books, listening to tapes, journaling, medical consultations, attending AA, Alanon or SLA meetings, or attending a specific workshop that furthers growth and healing.
