Welcome to the private practice of Dr. Rick Butts, LPCC-S. I am thrilled that you are taking a few moments to explore what I have to offer you. I am glad that you have decided to take steps toward changing and healing your life and relationships. I believe that this could be the first step toward a more fulfilling and rewarding life. This is my goal and why I invite you to consider my practice.
My practice with individuals and couples is an invitation to look at your life and begin to make movement in your healing journey from the first session! I encourage those I work with to have hope that no matter what brings them in that they can experience lasting change in their lives and relationships. I offer tradtional hour sessions for individuals. With the couples I work with I ask that they consider longer sessions that allow for more in depth time to explore their shared life and the concerns that brought them in. I use a variety of approaches that all focus on the healing power of relationship. This includes insight oriented and cognitive therapy, mindfulness practice, somatic experiencing, gestalt practices and a variety of spiritual resources. I encourage reading that will enhance what is being explored in session and homework, which supports what is learned in session to be applied in the world which one lives homework also encourages practicing new skills. I also encourage those I work with to attend intensive weekend workshops called HEALING OUR CORE ISSUES based on the work of Pia Mellody. The weekend experience is life changing. Those who have attended report that the workshop has given them a deep and lasting healing. It allows a person to achieve new insights and learn new behavioral skills that will enhance every area of their life.
This kind of treatment results in more satisfaction and joy in one's life and encourages each individual to incorporate a practice of being relational in their lives.
I have had the pleasure of working with great teachers and mentors during my 25 year career. The ones who have most influenced how I practice today are: Terry Real, LICSW (Relational LifeTherapy) and Pia Mellody, RN (5 Core Self Skills and Healing the Wounded Child, Adaptive Child and Growing the Functioning Adult). Their writings and trainings have shaped how I counsel today. I have also had the priiviedge of having mentors who have invested deeply in my life and career. Dr. Vietta Keith, (psychodynamic) Dr. Jayne Triene-Yager (gestalt) and Dr. Doug Reed (cognivtive-behavioral) are three individuals who have supported me in my development and influenced my thinking.
